Wherever you are in this world, may the love, peace, and joy that comes from Jesus Christ be felt as you celebrate his birth.

When evergreen swags, red bows, and pinecones begin to adorn the split rail fences, you know Christmas has arrived in the Historic Nauvoo flats. The live greenery is a beautiful festive touch enhancing already beautiful scenery.
Add a bounty of snow on top of it all and “peace on earth” becomes more than lyrics in Christmas hymns……it becomes part of life we enjoy with a white Christmas in the flats.
This is what Christmas season in Historic Nauvoo is like. Come visit!
Do you want to know what planning, patience, and perspiration looks like 40 years later? Walk through the Monument to Women Memorial Garden in Historic Nauvoo and you will see the fruits of four decades of tender care.
As you stroll through what is affectionately known as the “Women’s Garden,” it is hard to imagine the canopied brick paths without trees. (See an aerial photo here.) What began in 1978 when the thirteen sculpted figures were placed, trees planted, and flowerbeds filled is now an enchanting setting for contemplation and reflection.
Fall in Nauvoo this year has been a long-lasting display of color, which has been both delightful and memorable, but no place in the flats has been more stunning than the Women’s Garden. It has been a full 360 degrees of breathtaking color, every turn captivating.
The Women’s Garden is beautiful in spring and summer with the myriad of shrubs and flowers, but fall is where its full glory bursts forth. Foliage in every fall color flanks the walkways lending both a feeling of protection and majesty.
Thank you to Durell Nelson who not only designed the garden we now enjoy, but served as caretaker, along with countless volunteers. Your vision so many years ago has become a treasured site that truly honors women.
Every fall for the last six years we have scoured our archived images to find just the right ones for the next calendar. The task is both gratifying and daunting but this year’s results are as exciting as ever!
A few selections had been short-listed for the book but didn’t make the cut (we only had so much space to fill!) and a few are in our new Seasons of Nauvoo book. The rest are just more awesome images of our beloved City of Joseph.
Thanks to those who have already ordered prior to previewing the images. We appreciate your confidence in us! Pre-order sale (and best deal) has been extended thru October 22nd so if you were waiting, now’s the time to order. Click HERE to order.
Images that made the 2019 Seasons of Nauvoo Calendar finals are…..
“You have to do a calendar!” and “Where will I get my Nauvoo calendar?” and “Why not?”
Those were a few of the comments and questions we received from friends during discussions about our new book when casually mentioning not producing a Seasons of Nauvoo calendar this year.
So, are we doing a calendar this year? Well, yes we are. And……the 2019 Seasons of Nauvoo Calendar (our 6th annual) pre-order sale begins today. You can order at the reduced price for the next 30 days and get free shipping (USA only).

Blogging plans were set aside as we kept extra busy with all the activities a Nauvoo summer season holds plus publishing our Seasons of Nauvoo Book along with wedding, reunion, and portrait sessions. If you have been here during summer, you know what I mean. If not, definitely plan a trip!!
Some days we just pinch ourselves to be sure we aren’t in a dream. We really have been living in Nauvoo…..and for over 6 straight years now.
Here’s a few of our favorite summer memories…..
For as quiet as it may seem at times, Nauvoo is a very, very busy and interesting place to live.
(UPDATE: Book cover shown below was for marketing was a mock-up. This is the actual cover after working with a book designer.)

It all began in 2009 during our 1st Nauvoo visit during pageant. The beautiful flowers, abundance of trees, and open grassy areas among the historic sites plus proximity to the mighty Mississippi River left us wondering. “What does Nauvoo look like during the other seasons?
During a second trip to Nauvoo the next year to assist photographing the pageant, we again had the same question in mind and searched for a photography book showing Nauvoo’s seasons. What did we find? None. Nada. Zilch. That was when the book idea hatched and dream began.
Realizing quarterly visits would be inadequate, we decided to leave Florida and move to Nauvoo. (We can see your raised eyebrows about now…..yes we flew north and were told, “You’re not snowbirds, you’re dodo birds!” Ha!!) Now, several years and thousands of images later, our book dream is ever closer to becoming reality.
The Seasons of Nauvoo: Year-round Imagery of the City Beautiful 12×10” hardcover book will have 144 pages of colorful images divided into four chapters, one for each season,.
We are in the final stages of book layout design and middle of marketing our funding campaign. Want to be part of this book’s success? Head over to our Kickstarter page and see all the book details.
There’s a cool 3-minute video with project basics and more detailed description on the page, PLUS info on how you can get a copy of the book, archival prints (including limited edition prints of previously unpublished images), and be listed as a book sponsor.
This is an all-or-nothing campaign (ending April 20th) so if the funding goal is reached…..the book will become more than just 1000’s of beautiful images on a computer hard-drive. The dream becomes a reality.
Hope to have you as a backer!!
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for capturing the moment! Thanks for sharing! Breath taking!
