Have you ever experienced fall in Nauvoo? It is quite beautiful. Actually, sometimes it is quite stunning. You know the kind of stunning I mean…..stop, mouth drops open and any words you might utter like “wow” or “beautiful” don’t match what you are seeing?
This photo captured what words can’t describe. Tom saw the fog that morning and rushed down to see what he could capture. With the sunrise filtering through the fog he got what he was looking for and more! If you could see the images taken just a few minutes later, you would have seen how quickly the scene changed. Timing, light and color are everything to a photographer…and it can literally change in a minute or two.
It is a favorite spot for our morning (or midday or evening!) walks in the historic area or “the flats” as the locals know it. There is a brick cobblestone sidewalk, concealed by a yellow leaf carpet, that leads one past the Tin Shop to the Old Post Office, John Taylor Home, and Print Shop. Browning’s Gun Shop is through the mist to the left.
Historic Nauvoo Main Street one early morning in the fall. Right place at the right time.
Beautiful.
What week did you capture this? We are thinking of Nauvoo the 19th and 20th of this month but want to get the beautiful colors if possible.
Hello Parley,
Thanks for asking!! This image was taken on October 25th a few years ago. Trees are just now beginning to turn this season. Not sure what fall colors we will have due to a long dry spell. Hoping the rain we are getting now will help bring out the fall colors.
Have a great day!
Jeanette and Tom
