The first BYU group I had the privilege to see perform was the Lamanite Generation back in the mid-1970’s. It was my first connection to my soon to be alma mater….so this all Native American performing group has a special place in my heart and memory.
I had the privilege of seeing this group perform again here in Nauvoo (but this time under their new name of “Living Legends”) and as always, the shows were awesome!
Composed of Native American, Polynesian, and Latin American dancers, the perform dances that originate in those cultures. I had a chance to visit with several members during their 2-week show run and asked about their dances. The Polynesian dancers said theirs were the best….but so did the Latin American and Native American dancers. I do have my favorites…..
Tom took 350+ photos during the first show we watched and it has been really, really hard to select images for a post saluting these hard-working students. So…..I am dividing the photos into two posts. Here’s the first batch with country and name of the dance listed.
Didn’t you love the costumes?!! There’s more coming………watch tomorrow for BYU “Living Legends” Part-2!
NAUVOO IS VERY BLESSED TO HAVE YOU IN OUR MIDST….VERY WONDERFUL PHOTOGRAPHY…YOU SOMEHOW ARE ABLE TO CATCH ‘EM IN THE DANCE AND KNOW THAT THEY ARE DANCING. YES, THE COSTUMES WERE FABULOUS….TOMASI AND I WENT TWICE. WAYYYYYYYYYY GOOD. ALOHA, IRENE
Thanks so much for your kind words Irene. Thought you would really enjoy this show and appreciate the photos. Aloha!!
Beautiful pictures by a great photographer, Tom Simpson. The pictures he took in Nauvoo last year of our family reunion are a treasure, and I recommend Tom to anyone going to Nauvoo who would like him to capture their priceless memories in pictures. He is the best.
Thank you for your kind words. What fond memories we carry with us for the time we were able to be with your beautiful family.
“WOW”…BRO & SIS. SIMPSON, THIS IS A SENSATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO HAVE BEEN PART OF AND I AM LOST FOR WORDS IN SUGGESTING THAT YOUR PROFESSIONALISM IN PHOTOGRAPHY CERTAINLY CAPTURED THE REALISM AS NO OTHER INDIVIDUAL COULD HAVE.
GREAT TO SEE THAT SO MANY HAVE BECOME YOUR FANS AND FOLLOWERS AS THEY ARE EXPOSED TO YOUR SENSATIONAL WORK…
I IDENTIFY A SIMILARITY TO THIS GROUP AND THOSE WHO PERFORM IN THE POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER IN HAWAII…..COULD THEY BE RELATED. AGAIN, GREAT JOB TOM, YOU DEFINITELY ARE NUMBER ONE.
LEILANI AND LENNY
Such kind words…..and very much appreciated. Yes, some of the Living Legends members also perform at the Polynesian Cultural Center. I talked to several of them. Enjoyed their sweet personalities, much like yours. Aloha!
